What to do with your results

We suggest rating yourself periodically and then relating your scores to the questions below. They are only suggestions — you can come up with your own.

  1. Notice the areas where you rated yourself low. Do you understand what the competency means? If not, you may want to work out what practicing it would look like. What resources would you need? Could you ask your colleagues?
  2. Describe what exactly in your current practice is inconsistent with the areas where you scored low.
  3. Think about how you could change your behavior in relation to this competency. What would you need to read? Which skill could you practice? Are you willing to make room for possible failure while learning something new, and keep going anyway?
  4. Choose one specific action, commit to it, and start with it.
  5. Repeat for the other competencies with low ratings.
Using the form as a supervisor

If you are already familiar with a trainee’s work, you can rate how consistent their practice is with each competency, and then work together on a plan for developing more flexibility in the areas with low ratings. The form can also be filled in after an individual session — not every competency will be relevant every time, but it helps you notice behavior that is inconsistent with the ACT model, or skills that deserve more practice.
